Physical Education
Physical education is an academic discipline that provides content and instruction designed to develop motor skills, knowledge and behaviors for physical activity and physical fitness. The goal of physical education is to develop physically literate individuals who have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity.
This physical education course will provide an opportunity for the student to:
Learn the skills necessary to participate in a variety of physical activities.
Know the implications and the benefits of involvement in various types of physical activities.
Participate regularly in physical activity.
Become physically fit.
Value physical activity and its contributions to a healthful lifestyle.
Health
Health and Safety Education is taught once at the high school level through the state required Physical Education I course. Other Health Courses maybe be offered as an elective that concentrate on the topics of Personal Health and Community Health. These elective Health course do not replace the required PE I course that is necessary to graduate. The health and safety curriculum includes the following topics:
Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs
Growth, Development, & Sexual Health & Responsibility
Injury Prevention and Safety
Mental, Emotional, and Social Health
Personal and Community Health
