Learning Target: Students will learn to use the Read 180 program and understand how it can help them reach their goals to improve Reading (Decoding, Vocabulary, and Comprehension).
Period 2 9:00 - 9:45 Read 180 8th Grade
THREE STATIONS (No Small Group lessons on testing days, or when there is a substitute):
1. Computer Software (first 20 min.): Students should go on the ED HMH app, sign into the Read 180 program, and start working in the software program the first 20 minutes of every day. The most effective way to improve Reading levels is to work in the software program 20 minutes a day, totaling 100 minutes a week. Students who work hard and achieve the goal of working 100+ minutes each week will improve their Reading level and earn a reward (drink of choice) on Friday.
2. Small Group Teacher Directed Lessons 20 min. Group A: M-W and Group B: T-Th, Friday is "Reader's Choice," (No Small Group when there is a substitute): Workshop 9 Unreal books, pgs.16-19 Making Meaning: Read together the story (from the "Last Last-Day-of-Summer") as a small group, taking turns to read each paragraph aloud and then discuss. Go over the Academic Vocabulary and Close Reading questions.
3. Independent Reading (20 min. Group A: T-Th and Group B: M-W min.) - Students now have access to a classroom library of Read 180 novels, and an eBooks library on the Read 180 software program in the "Book Shelf" tab. All Read 180 students are expected to complete 1-2 novels per quarter, or 4-8 novels per year, and pass a quiz on the novels they read.
