Care and Protection

Protection

Oakview Elementary highly recommends that students purchase cases for their Chromebooks.

PTA will sell Chromebook covers for student use. You may order one at the Meet-the-Teacher event.

Repairs

Chromebook breaks are usually unintentional, but they can happen. The Dell warranty covers a student's Chromebook for ONE accidental damage claim per 365 days. A defect in materials or workmanship not caused by accidental or intentional damage will also be covered by the warranty. A certified Dell technician visits Oakview regularly to repair damaged Chromebooks. Students and parents/guardians should not attempt to repair Chromebooks themselves. Doing so may cause additional and more expensive damage.

If your Chromebook is damaged, malfunctioning, lost or stolen, students should bring their Chromebook to Mrs. Rushton in the Virtual Lab. The student will be provided with another Chromebook so they don't miss out on classwork or assignments which require use of their device. And thanks to Chromebooks, saving files to Google and Google Drive, all settings, apps, extensions and files are backed up online and will still be available on their newly assigned device!

When Accidents Happen

Accident #1

Student reports broken/malfunctioning Chromebook immediately and turns it in for repair. Student will be supplied with another Chromebook.

The break is recorded and the parent/guardian will be notified.

Accident #2 or more

Student reports broken/malfunctioning Chromebook immediately and turns it in for repair. Student will be supplied with another Chromebook.

The break is recorded and the parent/guardian will be notified of the charges due to repair the device.

The school may choose to limit the student's Chromebook access, such as only allowing the student to use the Chromebook at school during class time. The parent/guardian will be notified of the break and any actions being taken to prevent further damage.
