Broadcast and Yearbook Equipment/Classroom Rules and Procedures

***Due to COVID 19, we will not be sharing equipment***

CAMERAS

ALWAYS check out your equipment before using (make sure you get your group number)

ALWAYS hold camera using the strap anytime the camera is not on a tripod.

ALWAYS CHECK camera battery life and make sure camera SD cards works properly before leaving the class room.

ALWAYS hold camera or any other equipment with both hands!

ALWAYS report equipment malfunctions and accidents immediately.

NEVER transport your camera while on the tripod to your filming location unless otherwise instructed by teacher.

NEVER move through the school with the camera lens cover or LCD screen open unless filming.

NEVER touch the camera lens.

NEVER change the camera settings

NEVER force LCD screens, SD cards, batteries, microphones, tripod decks when trying to move, connect, turn, etc.

NEVER leave your camera unattended! (take with you during a drill or emergency)

TRIPODS and MONOPODS

ALWAYS check out your equipment before using (make sure you get your group number)

ALWAYS hold your tripod/monopod with two hands

ALWAYS put the tripod deck back on tripod/monopod after use

ALWAYS report equipment malfunctions and accidents immediately.

ALWAYS put the tripod/monopod back into it’s collapsed position when returning it to the proper bin.

NEVER over tighten or loosen the knobs or levers on the tripod.

NEVER force the screw to turn when mounting the camera on the tripod/monopod deck.

NEVER leave your tripod unattended (unless during a drill/emergency - leave out of the walking path of others)

ALWAYS take your monopod with you during an emergency

SKATER DOLLY

ALWAYS check out your equipment before using

ALWAYS hold the skater dolly with two hands

ALWAYS put the camera on the skater dolly securely while over a table or counter.

ALWAYS report equipment malfunctions and accidents immediately.

ALWAYS put the skater dolly back into it’s collapsed position when returning it to the proper area

NEVER roll skater dolly - always push/guide with telescoped skater dolly handle only (don’t let go)

NEVER stand/sit on the skater dolly or place objects other than your camera on it

NEVER over tighten or loosen the knobs or levers on the skater dolly.

NEVER force the screw to turn when mounting the camera on the skater dolly

NEVER leave your skater dolly unattended (take with you during a drill or emergency)

TRIPOD DOLLY

ALWAYS check out your equipment before using

ALWAYS ask for teacher help to mount tripod to dolly

ALWAYS use the tripod with the dolly only on the 2nd floor

ALWAYS report equipment malfunctions and accidents immediately.

ALWAYS put the dolly back into it’s collapsed position when returning it to the proper bin

NEVER roll dolly - always push/guide dolly by its handle (don’t let go)

NEVER stand/sit on the dolly or place objects other than your tripod on it

NEVER over tighten or loosen the knobs or levers on the dolly.

NEVER force the screw to turn when mounting the tripod on the dolly

NEVER leave your tripod unattended (unless during a drill/emergency - leave out of the walking path of others)

LAVALIER AND HAND HELD MICROPHONES

ALWAYS check out your equipment before using (make sure you get your group number)

ALWAYS hold your microphone with two hands when transporting

ALWAYS put velcro back on microphone wires when putting back into assigned drawer

ALWAYS wrap the lavalier microphones and unwrap the microphones carefully with help from another group member so that the wires do not become tangled.

ALWAYS turn microphones on when using

ALWAYS turn microphones off when not in use

ALWAYS make sure that you don’t pinch the wires when you put the microphone away

ALWAYS check out only one mircophone at a time. Your camera can only support one!

NEVER fold microphone wires (loop carefully only) when putting away

NEVER use a microphone when doing an action scene!

NEVER stand on microphone wires

NEVER pull microphone wires

NEVER swing microphone around

NEVER drop microphone

SD CARDS

ALWAYS use your assigned group SD card only

ALWAYS make sure that you insert your card properly into the computer(s), cameras, and card readers - don’t force

ALWAYS return to the proper card reader holder

ALWAYS make sure you put the cut corner on the card facing towards the card holder center so that when the card is taken out of the holder - fingers are not on the metal strips.

NEVER stand on your SD card

NEVER get your SD card wet

NEVER bend your SD card

NEVER touch the metal on the SD card

NEVER leave your SD card in the computer. Load your footage and return the card to the proper holder

WALKIE TALKIES

ALWAYS check out your equipment before using (make sure you get your group number)

ALWAYS hold your walkie talkie with two hands when transporting

ALWAYS turn walkie talkie on when leaving the classroom

ALWAYS turn walkie talkie to channel 5 unless otherwise instructed

ALWAYS announce your group number then state your question.

ALWAYS put your walkie talkie back on the correct holder to charge

ALWAYS turn your walkie talkie off when placing back onto it’s charging base

NEVER play on the walkie talkie. It is for communication between the teacher and groups only!

NEVER leave your walkie talkie unattended (take with you during a drill or emergency)

BROADCAST ID’S

ALWAYS wear your assigned Broadcast ID when leaving the classroom for Broadcast business

ALWAYS make sure to take your assigned Broadcast badge (assigned numbers on the small filming room door)

NEVER bend, cut, bite, your Broadcast badge

NEVER change out - replace my badge covers and laynards with your own!

MAC CLASSROOM COMPUTERS

ALWAYS log in using your class login username and password

ALWAYS close out all programs when you exit (log off)

ALWAYS log off your class login at the end of class

ALWAYS log off before you shut down during the last class of the day

ALWAYS save your images into a folder for each video project (example: 3A2 PSA means class period 3A group 2 PSA) (create folder on the desktop)

NEVER place a drink near one of the classroom computers

NEVER search for items that do not pertain to your current video

NEVER add, remove, or move programs

NEVER delete or modify other group work

NEVER change computer settings

CLASSROOM PC COMPUTERS

ALWAYS log in using 121journalism and Fisher121 username and password

ALWAYS turn on the monitor and sound bar when using

ALWAYS save your images into a folder for each video project (example: 3A2 PSA means class period 3A group 2 PSA) (create this folder in the Video Folder under my PC/Libraries)

ALWAYS shut down the computer at the end of the last class of the day.

NEVER place a drink near one of the classroom computers

NEVER search for items that do not pertain to your current video

NEVER add, remove, or move programs

NEVER delete or modify other group work

NEVER change computer settings

ALWAYS observe classroom rules and procedures while in the studio

CLASSROOM RULES AND PROCEDURES

ALWAYS sit outside the classroom while you are waiting for the bell to ring while I am out monitoring the hallway

ALWAYS enter the classroom quietly and wait for instructions

ALWAYS leave your computer closed until teacher has given all instructions

ALWAYS be quiet during CNN and / or Fisher News

ALWAYS be quiet and respectful when guests, staff, administration come into the room

ALWAYS be quiet when teacher is talking

ALWAYS come with a fully charged computer

ALWAYS do your best work

ALWAYS be polite and respectful to other students. If someone should have an unfortunate event - DO NOT laugh at a person. Ask if you can help!!!!

ALWAYS handle equipment with respect and follow all equipment rules and procedures

ALWAYS sign out of the classroom and take the restroom pass or signed hall pass when leaving the class for non-broadcast business

ALWAYS sign out and check out equipment using the clipboards near equipment area on the side counter for broadcast business (filming, interviews, etc)

ALWAYS use your time wisely when out filming

ALWAYS be respectful and responsible when out filming in the school

ALWAYS remain together as a group (return and leave together) unless given permission by teacher.

ALWAYS return to the broadcast class 20 minutes before the end of the class to return equipment and load new video footage into your group video on the assigned computer

NEVER roll around the room, sit on the counters, or sit on the tables

NEVER run around the classroom

NEVER throw items in the classroom

NEVER go into unauthorized cabinets and drawers in the studio and classroom

NEVER go into Mrs. O’Malley’s desk or take anything off the desk

NEVER walk behind Mrs. O’Malley’s desk unless given permission by teacher

NEVER touch other students or their belongings

NEVER touch another student

NEVER horseplay while in the classroom or out int he building while on Broadcast business

NEVER close or turn off other peoples computers

NEVER raise tables unless Mrs. O’Malley gives permission

NEVER eat candy, gum, or any other food in broadcast journalism

Students who do not follow the above rules may be given an alternative research assignment instead of working in video or studio groups. The alternative research assignment can be found on the about page of google classroom. If inappropriate behaviors are continued - students may receive discipline action.
