Response to Intervention (Reading and Math RTI Syllabus)
Intervention Description (Reading): Reading Intervention is a program designed to help students strengthen reading skills in the following areas: decoding, fluency, vocabulary, spelling, and comprehension. The intervention addresses individual needs through direct individual/small group instruction. Students were selected for this intervention based primarily on the following factors: the universal screener (given 3 times a year), past assessments, grades, teacher input, and other data. The universal screener for K-5 is Amira. Other assessments such as benchmark assessments, classroom observations, and more are analyzed as well.
One of our tier three interventions is called Reading Horizons. Reading Horizons focuses on foundational phonics awareness and skills, and includes five phonetic skills to help readers decode and encode. The method uses a unique marking system and an intentional sequence that progresses from simple concepts to more complex ones.
Another tier three intervention curriculum used is called Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI). LLI is a short-term, supplementary, small-group literacy intervention designed to help struggling readers achieve grade-level competency. The intervention provides explicit instruction in phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, reading comprehension, oral language skills, and writing. LLI helps teachers match students with texts of progressing difficulty and deliver systematic lessons targeted to a student’s reading ability
The primary tier two intervention curriculum is called Amira Tutoring.
Intervention Description (Math): Math intervention is a program designed to help students strengthen math skills in the following areas: Numbers & Operations, Algebra & Algebraic Thinking, Geometry, and Measurement & Data. The intervention addresses individual needs through direct individual/small group instruction.
The primary intervention used is called Bridges Math. Bridges in Mathematics is a comprehensive PK–5 curriculum that equips teachers to fully address state standards in a rigorous, engaging, and accessible manner. Students gain a deep understanding of concepts, proficiency with key skills, and the ability to solve complex problems. Students will also receive support in grade level material along with their deficit areas.
Data Cycles and Progress Monitoring:
Students identified to receive intervention, will complete a multi-week data cycle through the intervention mentioned above. During the cycle, students will be progress monitored using Amira, Reading Horizons, and Bridges Math, if applicable. At the end of the week cycle, the data will be analyzed to determine next steps for your student.
Take Home Materials (Reading ONLY):
Each student will be provided with a “Book Pocket” or folder. Each week, books and/or other materials will be sent home. Students are recommended to read the books for at least 20 minutes per day. Please be sure your student brings the pocket with books back and forth each day!
