Social Work

What is a School Social Worker?

School Social Workers work with students and their families to resolve social, emotional and behavioral problems. They help parents, students, and school staff identify needs that interfere with learning and work with students to get the services they need.

Social workers reach out to the community for support for each child in need. They create a link between the school, home environment and community as a whole to ensure that the student can achieve academic success. To do this, they work with school administrators and leaders within the community who can specifically aid the child in the quest to overcome obstacles and succeed in school.

Together, they set up useful support services and intervention strategies that are tailored to the student’s needs. (theclassroom.com)

About me

I grew up in Greenville, graduating from Furman University with a BS in Psychology and then took a road trip up north where I got my Masters in Clinical Social Work from Boston University. Greenville called me home as I'm a Southern girl at heart! I worked as a Individual and Family Therapist for therapeutic foster care programs until I had my second child, staying home for 10 years before coming to work at Mauldin.

I am married to Thomas Lewis and we have 3 awesome kids. Our oldest daughter is a Junior at U of SC this year, our son began his Freshaman year at Clemson (so we are officially a house divided!) and our youngest is a Sophomore at Mann. We also have our sweet English Cocker, Belle, who rules the roost! I adore spending time with friends and family, traveling, playing tennis and sitting on the beach with a good book.
