Students experience music through singing, playing, moving and creating.
Students in grades 1-5 attend music once a week for 45 minutes. K-4 and K-5 students attend music once a week for 30 minutes.
Students are graded on class participation. Students receive either an M or P per nine weeks.
M= Meet the Standards
P= Progressing Toward the Standards
Homework is not assigned.
Incentives/ Classroom Expectations:
Students are awarded "house points" for their participation and behavior in class.
Students are expected to follow the "Music Essentials"
M- Move quietly when entering and exiting the room.
U- Use good manners; be nice and kind to others.
S-Speak, sing and participate when asked.
I- Involve yourself in class activities.
C-Care for the music equipment.
Students in grades 1 - 5 have the opportunity to be awarded "Music student of the day" at the end of class. Students earn this by participating and following the music essentials.

Students in 4th & 5th grade will play the recorder. Students may purchase a recorder from the school or use a school recorder.
4th and 5th graders will be asked to bring chromebooks to class on various occasions. The classroom teacher will be notified beforehand which days, so students can know when to bring them to music.
E-Learning Days: Music lessons will be uploaded onto the related arts website; Students in grades 3-5 will need chromebooks to log into Quaver Ed for music lessons.
Before School Groups:
The Ellen Woodside chorus is an auditioned singing group for 4th and 5th graders starting in late August through April. Chorus meets once a week for 35 minutes.
The Ukulele Club is open to 4th and 5th grade students. The Ukulele Club meets before school for 30 minutes from Oct. - Dec.
EWE Talent Show:
The talent show occurs once a year and is open to 3rd - 5th grade students. Interested students must audition for the talent show.
