Course Description:
Art 1 is an introductory course that covers the elements and principles of design. Basic drawing, painting, and 3D design are accompanied by lessons in art history, aesthetic awareness, art criticism and career exploration.

#2 pencil to class everyday
Sketchbook (for daily assignments, sketches, notes, etc)
Ruler (provided by teacher)

Greer High School Make Up Policy
At a minimum, students may receive up to 75% on minor assignments turned in 1 day late. At a minimum, students may receive up to 50% on minor assignments turned in 2 days late. This policy does not apply to students who are absent for instruction. When considering absences, teachers will assign a reasonable amount of time for students to make up assignments that does not exceed 5 days.
Course Objectives:
To develop problem solving skills through the exercise of art production.
To develop an appreciation of art through the process of aesthetic awareness.
To respond to art through the method of art criticism, which includes: description, analysis, interpretation and evaluation.
To investigate careers in which art and design students can become involved.
Grading Policy: 60% major assessments and 40% minor assessments with no more than 10% can count towards Homework.
Course Evaluation:
40% MINOR- Classwork, Sketchbook assignments A (100-90) B (89-80)
60% MAJOR- Art Production Assignments C(79-70)
D (69-60)
F (59-below)
Attendance Policy: Absences in High School are accrued per course. Any absence in excess of 10 may cause the student to lose credit for a 180-day course. Any absence in excess of 5 may cause the students to lose credit for a 90-day / semester course. Absences that are medical (doctor notes), bereavement, and/or Principal Approved are not included in the maximum absences.
Tardiness: Students will have five minutes between classes to help them manage the hallways, go to lockers, visit restrooms and move from one end of campus to the other. Uninterrupted time on task is vital to the educational process and is one of the major goals at Greer High School. Students coming into class late disrupt that process. Greer High School expects students to be in class on time.

Greer High students must be present a minimum of 45 minutes to be counted present.

Academic Policies and Procedures: All assignments should be submitted on time. Missing assignments MUST be made up and submitted within 5 days of the absence. Dishonesty and plagiarism will not be tolerated.
Classroom Rules:
Be on time to class. 4 tardies = referral to administrator
Respect other students and teacher.
Respect classroom materials and always clean up your space.
Observe all school rules.

*Chromebooks are allowed when the Green BYOD sign is displayed.
CELL PHONE POLICY: GCS School Board Policy JCDA is in effect so students cannot have cell phones, ear buds, or other electronic devices out in any classroom at any time.
*Students are NOT allowed to handle materials not designated for their use. This is for their safety. DO NOT TOUCH THE CUTTING BOARD!
