Instructor: Ms. Goff
Academic Seminar is an elective course for students with an active Individualized Education Plan (IEP). The primary goal is mastery of IEP objectives while improving academic performance in core and elective courses. Students are enrolled in one block, typically for both semesters, and earn one elective credit per semester.
Direct Instruction: Learning strategies to improve academic performance and preparation for End of Course Exams (EOCs).
Small Group & Individualized Instruction: Targeted skill-building and content support.
Self-Directed Learning: Independent work to reinforce academic skills.
Instruction is adapted to each student’s learning style and academic needs. Strategies may include:
Technology integration (USA Test Prep, Kahoot, Scholastic Magazines, etc.)
Graphic organizers, verbal/visual cues, and peer collaboration
Accommodations per IEP (small group, oral, extended time)
10 Minutes: Preview & Review
25 Minutes: Direct Instruction & Group Activity
55 Minutes: Small Group & Individualized Instruction

Quarter Grade: Weighted average of:
Minor Assessments – Daily work, participation, quizzes, skill checks (50%)
Major Assessments – Projects, exams, IEP progress evaluations (50%)
Grading Scale:
A: 90–100
B: 80–89
C: 70–79
D: 60–69
F: 59 and below
Students are expected to:
Follow all school rules as outlined in the Student Handbook.
Respect the rights and property of others.
Participate actively and stay on task.
Come prepared with needed materials daily.
Use technology only for academic purposes.
Consequences for not meeting expectations may include verbal warnings, parent contact, loss of privileges, or administrative referral.
