Welcome to AP Lang!

Advanced Placement English Language and Composition (AP Lang) is a college-level course that is designed to introduce students to the rhetorical situation and to give them frequent opportunities to think critically, respond thoughtfully, and analyze thoroughly.  Students will read and consider important ideas advanced throughout history through a variety of texts and forms (essays, letters, speeches, images, film, and digital media); students will then use this newfound awareness as a springboard for discussion, composition, and developing their own ideas.

Throughout the semester, students will gain an appreciation for the rhetorical and aesthetic elements of effective communication, leading them to approach all forms of discourse in a deeper, more meaningful way, resulting in the students’ ability to “write effectively and confidently in their college courses across the curriculum and in their professional and personal lives” (College Board, AP English Course Description, 2010).  Students will take the AP examination in May (potentially earning scores that lead to college credit).
