Keep in mind that weekly homework pages will be sent home with students and should be returned each Friday. Students should read for 15-20 minutes each night and practice writing about their reading. Students learn about adding and subtracting with regrouping, or borrowing (eg. 123 - 47), and without regrouping, or borrowing (eg. 123 - 21). Students work with 2 and 3 digit numbers. One of the toughest skills for students to understand are word problems. This is because they not only have to read the problem but pull the numbers out, decide what order they go in, decide if they are adding or subtracting, and then actually write and solve the equation.
