Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, Guitar
Course Description: To promote and develop the optimum physical, mental , musical and social development of each student through lectures, demonstrations, videos, audios, rehearsals, sectionals, and performances. To develop a working understanding of musical fundamentals and a love for music.
The following State/National Curriculum Standards will be the focus of all Instrumental Music classes at Hillcrest High School. I will use the guidelines set forth to ensure the highest quality possible in the instrumental music program.
Grading Procedures:
Students receive a grade in Symphonic Band, Jazz Band and Guitar based on the following:
1. Ability and dependability as a player-practice outside of class rehearsals.
2. Dependability as an individual-attendance, care of instrument and music.
3. Loyalty, cooperation, and citizenship-as reflected in attitudes and willingness to work for the band, its director, fellow students and the school
4. Written test.
5. Playing test.
6. Class participation on a daily bases
7. Performances.
Test will be announced 1 week in advance. Major grades will count 60% and minor grades will count 40%. Students will be given a weekly grade for participation in the rehearsal. Each days grade will count 20 pt.s for a total of 100 pt.s for the week.
Instructional Materials:
Guitar-The Hal Leonard Guitar Method Book 1 and a guitar. (Both supplied by the student)
And supplemental music provided by teacher.
Symphonic and Jazz Band: Concert music, the I Recommend Book, Superior Bands In 16 Weeks, Technicises for Band. (Provided by the director)
General Rules of Behavior:
1. No food, drink or gum in the band room
2. Books and personal belongings are not to be left in the band room or instrument storage area.
3. All trash should be thrown in the waste container.
4. Every student should have the necessary materials for class.
5. No individual playing of instruments without being directed to do so.
6. Only use what is yours. Do not touch or use some ones instrument without permission.
7. All school rules that are in the handbook apply at all times.
8. Be respectful of others at all times.
Procedures for Non-Instructional Routines:
All instructions for safety, class procedures, instrument storage, entering and exiting the room will be discussed in length at the beginning of the school year. These procedures are vital in making our area safe and efficient as possible.
