Music Room Expectations
Make wise Choices - Make choices that help you and your classmates do the right thing
Use Kind Words - Use language that would build up, rather than tear down, your classmates
Speak... When Asked - Speak only when you have permission
Involve Yourself - Give your best effort and participate in all music class activities
Care for the Room - Take care of the classroom and everything you see in it
Consequences
Students are aware of the consequences for disregarding MUSIC rules. They are tiered below:
Warning: A reminder to do the right thing when a student is struggling to do it.
Second Warning: A second warning to do the right thing. This is more serious than a first Warning.
Rest Area - After a third warning, that student will go to the Rest Area (time out) to reflect on his/her choices before joining the rest of the class again. I may ask students to reflect on their choices by writing notes to explain their actions and why those actions are not appropriate for music class.
Call home - If a student continues to disregard classroom expectations, even after returning from the Rest Area, I will call that student's parents to explain the behaviors I saw, how they disregarded MUSIC rules, and work with together with the parents to resolve those behaviors.
Office Referral - If the behavior is severe enough (i.e. physical assault, cursing, or any behavior that would reasonably cause a classmate to fear for his/her safety), I will immediately refer that student to the administration team. I will also refer a student to the admin team if all previous tiers have been followed but the targeted behavior still has not changed.Â
