Advisory time is prep time for the rest of the day, and to insure our students are ready for the the Chromebook charge will be checked and is expected to be 80% of above and preferably 100%. AVID binders are inspected and reorganized, and all pencils are sharpened.
Upon entry into the class students prepare to work on project and assignments and show a willingness to learn. Back packs are hung from the rear of desk seats and Chromebook and AVID binders are placed on top of desks with Chromebook on bottom of the stack.
Bellringer/Starter work for the year is a Story By the Sentence assignment. Students will quickly review their previous sentences and then continue their story with one more sentence at the start of each class period.
Students are expected to work diligently on all assignments and put their best effort and focus in to all thing., this means minimal off topic conversations or activities especially while on Chromebook.
English Language Arts is a discussion heavy subject but the expectation is to respect and acknowledge everyone's contribution to the conversation and that means no interrupting or antagonistic comments or insult.
During class all Bathroom and Water use will be authorized and enabled through the SMARTPASS system in accordance with the rule set by Tanglewood Middle School Administration. There are no passes issued in the first or last 5 minutes of class.
Class work is done In class, no work from other classes is done during ELA time and no ELA work is done during other class working times. This is a matter of respect for all classes , teachers, and other students.
End of class is at the end of each period, students are expected to work until told to pack up much like as a teacher I am expected to teach from bell to bell. During end of class students will put away any class resources, pack up their work in their AVID Binders in the ELA folder and quickly transition to the next period. There are no water fountain trips or bathroom use during transitions.
Library Days are every other Monday. Failure to uphold the standards set by the Librarians will result in loss of library privileges the next week.
The overriding rule of all period for both students and all adults in the room is be polite, be respectful, be willing to learn.
● Clothing and/or hair should not be so extreme or inappropriate to the school setting as to disrupt the education process. Therefore, clothing deemed distracting, revealing, overly suggestive or otherwise disruptive will not be permitted
● Students should have at least 1 water bottle at all times.
● Student ID should be visible at all times.
● Wearing accessories or clothing that could pose a safety threat to oneself or others is not allowed.
● Hats, bandanas, and sunglasses may not be worn in the building. They may not be worn on belt loops, book bags, etc. and should be placed in your bookbag at all times.
● Pajamas, lounge wear, and blankets are not permitted. Pajama pant bottoms are not allowed. ● Hoodie sweatshirts may be worn only with the hoodie in the “down” position. ● Attire must not evidence membership or affiliation with a "gang" in any negative sense of the term.
● Proper shoes must be worn at all times. Flip flops (shower type shoes) are not permitted. Soccer sandals (slides),bedroom shoes , Heelys, or slippers are NOT allowed. Crocs may be worn in “sport mode” only.
● Attire must not be immodest, obscene, profane, lewd, vulgar, indecent or offensive.
● Clothing that inappropriately exposes body parts is not permitted. Students shall not expose undergarments. ● Skirts and shorts should fit and be in good taste and not be shorter than 3 and ¼” (the length of the Students ID) above the knee when standing. ● No exposed midriff areas.
● Leggings, jeggings, exercise pants, tights, leotards, see-through pants, or tight-fitting pants, or spandex type-pants may not be worn as outer garments. If such items are worn, a blouse, dress, shirt, or sweater must be long enough to meet the ID length rule stated above. No visible undergarments or items worn as undergarments.
● Pants must be worn at the natural waistline and undergarments are not to be visible. Pants and slacks must not bag, sag, or drag.Pants should not have holes above the knees.
● No clothing, jewelry, or tattoos are permitted that display profanity, suggestive phrases, or advertisements for, or messages or pictures depicting or suggesting alcohol, tobacco, drugs, or sex.
● Headphones, earbuds, airpods, etc. cannot be used or visible from 8:15-3:15, unless part of the teacher’s directed instruction.
In accordance with district policy regarding cell phones, Tanglewood Middle School has established the following:
● Students will store their cell phones and other personal electronic devices in their book bags during the school day. If a student has their cell phone out during class, it may be confiscated and given to the grade level administrator to be returned at the end of the day. The device will be kept securely until dismissal.
● Devices should remain powered off at all times.
● Students should only be in possession of their phones for instructional use with the permission of their classroom teacher.
● Failure to follow the cell phone policy will result in disciplinary action.
● Any inappropriate use of cell phones or any other personal electronic device will result in disciplinary action and other actions deemed necessary by administration.
● Cell phones may be used at the end of the day after the announcement as determined by the teacher. ● Students are personally and solely responsible for the care and security of their PED. Neither the district nor the school assume any responsibility for theft, loss, damages, or vandalism to any PEDs brought onto school property.
● Parents/Guardians are advised that the best way to get in touch with their child during the school day is by calling the office at 864-355-4502.
