All students are expected to maintain acceptable behavior in and out of school. At HMS we expect that all Wildcats demonstrate positive character and behavior. Any behaviors that oppose a positive learning environment will be subject to the HMS discipline policy. Please see the student handbook for additional information.
We have 3 Rules for our classroom:
We are working towards a positive reward system, instead of negative consequences.
It is important that students understand procedures so students can participate in other activities. When students do not follow or understand procedures, it can create anxiety, chaos and uncertainty. Using this system will teach students how to learn social norms for being in different environments.
Some rewards include: Positive reinforcements will be used throughout the day; Stickers; Verbal Praise (Good working, great, nice job etc.); Physical Praise (Give me five, pat on back etc.); Food Reward (Goldfish cracker, raisin, skittle etc.)
What happens when rules are not followed?
3 Strikes
Strike One - Verbal Warning
Strike Two - Name on the board
Strike Three - Check Mark and phone call home
If there are more than three, then an administrator will be notified and a possible referral may be written. ( This depends on the severity of the behavior)
If a student becomes angry, and behavior escalates,*CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) techniques will be used to de-escalate situations.
