Discipline is a very important aspect of a classroom setting, especially an early childhood classroom. I would like to share with you my goals for the school year so that you may be aware of how I manage my classroom.
My goal is to create a safe learning environment that promotes learning, socialization, and problem solving skills. Every aspect of your child’s school day is centered around my goal to provide a safe and secure environment that is conducive to learning.
I will use Dr. Becky Bailey’s Conscious Discipline to guide my decisions and actions in fostering your child’s emotional independence. Conscious Discipline is derived from current brain research to best help you child manage their emotional needs.
The skills your child needs are best learned through hands-on activities and social interactions. I will encourage your child to develop skills to solve problems on their own. The children will learn to respect themselves and others as I model appropriate ways to handle challenging situations. I will accept each child’s feelings and unique personalities.
Your child will be allowed to make reasonable and safe choices and decisions about their experiences in the classroom. Allowing your child to make these decisions will provide him or her with confidence needed to succeed in life. If your child does not choose to work within reasonable choices, then natural and logical consequences will be applied. Throughout the week, each child will receive a “good” note. A good note is a hand-written note from the teacher bragging on the child. We will celebrate this note at the end of each day. A child may receive a good note for being a good friend, striving throughout the school day, making a personal gain, etc. When students receive a good note they will have the opportunity to visit the treasure box at the end of the day.
We will work together as a class to develop and discuss classroom rules/promise. Your child will have an active role in determining the rules that are appropriate for our class. We will discuss the ways to stay safe and respect our friends, teachers, and other adults in the school. The children will be actively involved in solving many of the day-to-day problems we encounter in our classroom. We will work together! If there are any problems, I will contact you by note or telephone.
Your child will grow emotionally and academically throughout this school year. I will encourage your child every step of the way and I look forward to working closely with you. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Thank you for your help in supporting my classroom management goals.
