Welcome to first grade at Oakview Elementary.  I am so excited about this year!  This is my 15th year teaching and my 6th year at Oakview. I taught five years in Charleston County and three years in Spartanburg County. I've taught kindergarten, first grade, third grade and fifth grade.

I grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina.  I received my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tennessee. I received my Master’s degree in Reading Education at the University of Tennessee.  I received my Technology plus 30 from the College of Charleston.  I love to learn new and exciting ways to teach each and every child in my class.  I am very excited about being your child's first grade teacher at Oakview.

I have been married for three years to my husband, Brandon.  We have 1 daughter (Charley) who was born in December.  We have 2 dogs (Holly and Roscoe).  I'm sure you will be hearing lots of stories about them from your little one.  In my free time I enjoy going on walks and traveling.

We are the first grade pirates! It is my hope that all students will be reading on a first grade level or above by the time they leave my room.  For this to happen we will have to work closely together.  Please check your child’s homework folder daily and help them complete the homework assignments. Practice words of the week, daily math concepts, and ask your child to tell you about their day.  Have them answer questions in complete sentences; we will be practicing this in the classroom, especially during Writer’s Workshop.

Thank you for sharing your child with me this school year.  I truly do love what I do and promise to love your child as if they were my own!  I will do my best to take care of them as we get them ready for second grade.  I encourage you to volunteer in the classroom this year in a way in which you feel comfortable.  Parent/Guardian volunteers are welcomed and appreciated in my classroom.  As we begin this journey together, I want to ensure you that we have an open line of communication.  If you ever have any questions or concerns, please contact me by email at segilliam@greenville.k12.sc.us, by telephone at 864-355-7120.   Thank you for your support and I look forward to hearing from you.
