Week of February 13- February 17

Monday

Today we received two more lessons from Ms. Gemma Perez and Ms. Hannah Mayernik. First up, Ms. Perez took us back just a few years to the 10th grade. Although it was Monday, Ms. Perez was able to display her true love for Social studies and teaching and helped us to better adjust. She did a great job teaching us all about D-day, we really learned a lot!! Next, Ms. Mayernik taught us how to graph functions! Great way to help include us and make sure we understood the material. I really enjoyed the lesson! Great job!

Tuesday

Today we went to MES to spend a day of love with our buddies! We had Caroline read the book "That yucky love thing" to us as a group, then we helped them color a valentine graph with the number of candy hearts they had.

Wednesday

Today we learned about our colors from Ms. TJ Snelling. We were challenged to place ourselves in the shoes of the special education students as that is Ms. Snelling's primary focus. The lesson was very hands on and really showed us her strong capabilities to handle any situations thrown her way! Then we learned about our basic shapes from Ms. Kayla Rodgers. She helped us to learn the names of the shapes, how to tell the difference between the shapes and how to draw the shapes. She really let us get hands on and we were able to use what we learned from Ms. Snelling's lesson, to better help us in Ms. Rodger's lessons as we colored and traced our shapes.

Thursday

Today we encountered such power from our first guy teacher! Mr. Zeb Sneed. His lessons outlined the way in which we use hurtful words like "retard" and "stupid" in everyday language and how it really harms those around us. This is one force to be reckoned with! Outstanding job Mr. Sneed, you will thrive in special education. Then we entered the 1st grade with Ms. Jenna Hewes. Ms. Hewes taught us about capacity. We learned how to decide which items, like milk or a pool, had more capacity (or ability to hold the maximum amount) than the other item. We got to use a worksheet to figure out which items had more capacity than the others. Great job!

Friday

Today we had two teachers teaching us at the same time! We had Ms. Kayla Finely and Ms. Brittany Bassie teaching us how to tell the difference between synonyms and antonyms. They helped us learn by showing us a story were we had to fill in the blanks with words that were similar or had a similar meaning. We got to really experience a new way of teaching with the two teachers versus just one. They set up stations for us to get one on one learning and we even got cinnamon buns to help us remember synonyms as well as making ants at one of the stations to remember antonyms. Great job ladies, way to help us and giving up delicious treats!! Much needed!

Overall, this week was very successful in helping us learn more about each other. We were able to give and receive constructive criticism as well as being reminded of the simple things we once knew and may have forgotten about. Really amazing job everyone.

Tuesday

Mrs. Turner was ever so gracious and gave the entire class a work day to catch up on any missing assignments or homework. The day would have been useful except the fact that everything in the school was down. So today was more of a wasted yet chilled day.

Wednesday

Today was our absolute first day teaching our peer lessons! Way to go Olivia McGuirt for being our first brave soul! Ms. McGuirt's lesson consisted of less than, greater than or equal to. We got to play with gold fish and alligators, talk about fun and a great future teacher behind the lesson. Next up we had a real powerhouse: Caroline Weldon. She taught us so many new things about establishing settlements and cash crops, way to go Caroline, being back in Middle school was lots of fun!

Thursday

Julia Wells took us on a trip back to Kindergarten, yes! Ms. Wells taught us all about our senses and how to use and identify them correctly. She really captivated the class with the coloring sheet she gave us and the marshmallows and paper bags filled with mystery items. I really enjoyed the moments of engaging and for 20 minutes, Ms. Wells did an amazing job displaying her teaching skills and strategies. Then, we had Kyra Westmoreland teaching us all about the power of using our voices. She really tried to tie it into our futures as teachers. She also did a really good job at commanding the room, she has a big voice that she was not afraid to use.

Friday

Whoa! Today we had a big jump in grades. Ms. Natalie Beeler taught us how to be first graders again. She taught us how to tell time on a clock! A lesson that will forever remain useful! Good job! Then we hit our worst nightmare: Calculus. Which was not that bad because the teacher, Ms. Jessica Simek, taught us so well. She may be a bit more reserved but she is destined to be a wonderful teacher!

Overall, this week was very productive and all of us have learned something valuable about ourselves in our futures in education!

Week of January 23-27

We shared our children's book and test with a friend and were to take the test. I took Kyra's test on Kiss The Frog. At the very end of class, we all walked up to the front office and delivered the gifts to the teachers. I, along with a few others, wrote my letter to Mrs. Farmer.

Wednesday

Today Mr. Rhymer came to speak to us today! He told us about how to get a job at a school and how teaching is the most rewarding profession. Mr. Rhymer is such an awesome person/princiPAL. #4yearsofRhymer

Thurday

Mrs. Jennifer Wise came to speak to us today. She also spoke to us during the Educators Rising meeting. She talked about having a mentor, and being one and about how to appropriately blur the line between life and school. Mrs. Wise is one of my new favorite people ever. I love how she has such a love for her subject area and how she's always excited about everything, especially teaching and math.

Friday

Today we had a paper airplane contest! We each got a partner, made paper airplanes, and had a contest on who could throw theirs the farthest. Each pair's total distance was both of the plane's distances combined. We then read (watched) the book Paper Airplane by Michael McMillan. It was about thinking outside the box and not judging people. The class in the book did the same activity we did, but one of the boys balled his piece of paper into a ball, instead of an airplane.
