Students must earn a total of 24 units of credit in state-approved courses. The unit requirements are distributed as follows:
English/Language Arts - 4 credits
Mathematics - 4 credits
Science - 3 credits
U.S. History and Constitution - 1 credit
Economics - .5 credit
U.S. Government - .5 credit
Other Social Studies - 1 credit
Physical Education or Junior ROTC - 1 credit
Computer Science - 1 credit
Foreign Language or Career and Technology Education - 1 credit
You will need at least 2 credits in the same foreign language for 4-year college admission
Personal Finance- .5 credit (for Freshmen students 2023-24 and after)
Electives - 6.5 credits/7 credits (for Freshmen students 2023-24 and after 6.5 credits; for students who entered 9th grade prior to the 2023-24 school year, 7 credits are needed)
24 credits total
Please Note: Colleges and Universities may require additional coursework (3 foreign language credits, 3 lab sciences, fine art credit...) please check the website or contact the admissions office of the specific colleges/universities to ensure you have taken the required credits.
Requirements for advancement to each grade level for students are:
English I
one unit of mathematics (*Math Strategies does not count towards the math requirement for promotion or graduation)
four other units
English I and II
two units of mathematics
one science
one social studies
six other units
English I, II and III
three units of mathematics
two units of science
two social studies
eight other units
-However, the student may be treated as a senior if the student has developed a written plan with his/her school counselor that will enable the student to graduate at the end of the current school year.
