What are the mental health services available to students at Travelers Rest High School?
Diagnostic Assessment
This is a structured meeting where I gather information to better understand your student behaviorally, socially, and academically. We will review background information, discuss current concerns that you & your student may have, strengths, and stressors. Assessments such as questionnaires and/or rating scales may also be used during the Diagnostic Assessment to help understand your student so that we can create a the best plan for treatment!
Individual Therapy
Individual Therapy is when I will meet with students one-on-one for sessions. This is where we will focus on building skills/strategies, managing and processing emotions, behaviors, and challenges that they may be experiencing. These sessions are specific to each student and can look different each time depending on their needs! Frequency is tailored to student's specific needs and goals for treatment.
Family Therapy
Family Therapy is similar to Individual Therapy, however this is when I meet with you, your student, and/or other additional family members to work towards building skills/strategies, managing and processing emotions, behaviors, challenges, and dynamics that the student and family may be experiencing. Family sessions help us align on strategies so that your student is supported both at school and at home. These sessions are specific to each student and can look different each time depending on their needs! Frequency is tailored to student's specific needs and goals for treatment.
Group Therapy
Group Therapy is a small group of students meeting together with me to work on shared skills and goals. It allows students a chance to practice skills in a safe and structured environment. There are no current group options but I hope to create some in the future after building my caseload!
Crisis Management
Crisis Management is immediate support that I provide when a student is experiencing a situation that feels unsafe or overwhelming. In these situations, I meet with student to right away to assess what is going on, help them regulate, and determine the level of support needed. This may include creating a Safety Plan, a meeting with a parent/guardian, or connecting with outside resources.
Service Plan Development
Service Plan Development is the process of creating a clear, Individualized Plan of Care (the IPOC) for how we are going to support your student. After gathering information from the Diagnostic Assessment, we are able to collaborate to create treatment goals and outline the services that will help meet these goals!
How do I know if my student is eligible for services?
To be eligible for RBHS services your student's presenting symptoms have to show impaired functioning in at least two of the four areas:
School
Home
Social
Community
