The PSAT/NMSQT is a digital test from the College Board that offers the opportunity for students to practice for the SAT. Students can also qualify for the National Merit Scholarship through the PSAT.
Standard time test length is 2 hours and 14 minutes (including breaks)
Reading and Writing (64 minutes)
Math - Calculator (70 minutes)
Study materials can be found through the College Board's website. The College Board has also partnered with Khan Academy to offer SAT practice that would also help with the PSAT. A free PSAT/NMSQT Study Guide is also available to be picked up during the registration table during lunches.
PSAT - Sophomores* (No Cost)
NMSQT - Juniors ($TBD Fee in 2025)
(*Sophomores are defined as those students who are in their second year in high school.)
PSAT/NMSQT Registration start on August 18, 2025 and ends on August 26, 2025 at 4 PM.
Students who do not register by 4 PM on August 26 will not take the PSAT/NMSQT.
11th grade students must pay $TBD through MySchoolBucks to complete their registration for the PSAT/NMSQT. If the fee is not paid, the student will not take the PSAT.
Registration will occur through a Google Form that will be emailed to students through school email and Backpack. The Google Form will also be available through the MHS website and social media. A sign up table at all lunches will be available for the entire registration period.
Registered students will take the PSAT at school - TBD.
There will be make-up testing. Date TBD
Before Test Day: Students will receive a letter indicating their testing location and specifics about the test. The teachers will also have testing locations to assist any student who forgets their letter.
Arrival: Students will not attend their morning Fine Arts Center or Golden Strip Center classes on test day. Students should arrive to school no later than 8:30 on test day.
Late Arrival: Students who arrive after Section 1 of the PSAT has started in their testing room will not be allowed to test per the College Board. Students cannot be dismissed from the testing room for an early dismissal once testing has started in their testing room.
Lunch: Students will eat lunch after testing is complete.
Do Not Bring: Students should leave electronic devices (including but not limited to phones, personal computing devices, cameras, audio players, and wearable technology) at home on test day.
Students should bring:
a school-produced student ID for identification purposes
snacks and a water bottle (for consumption during a scheduled break)
fully charged school-issued Chromebook
an acceptable scientific or graphic calculator (PSAT Student Guide has list of acceptable calculators)
The digital test has a Desmos calculator built in.
1-2 #2 pencils with good erasers
**Please be aware, students must bring their own #2 pencils and their own acceptable calculator. The school will not be able to provide students with a pencil or a calculator.**
Students with a College Board account will be able to access their scores online in November.
