On September 22th and 25th, National Honor Society members gathered for the first group service project of the year. For this quarter, members decorated paper bags for children who would receive donations collected earlier in the month. The goal of this project was to create awareness for the number of children and their families experiencing poverty in our local community. NHS was excited to bring some relief to those stressed over money needed for food.

On April 25th and 26th, National Honor Society members gathered for the fourth and final group service project. For this quarter, members crafted superhero capes for the local children's hospital. Each student used about a yard of fabric, fabric glue, and some Velcro to create the capes. The goal of this project was to create awareness for the number of young children experiencing hospitalization. NHS was excited to bring some relief, play, and joy into the lives of children whose families are stressed over their health and childhood, as many of these children will miss out on opportunities to have fun and be a kid.
On February 24th and 25th, members of National Honor Society gathered for their third quarter group project. This quarter, the club created posters honoring well known and respected members of the African American community. This was done in recognition of February being Black History Month. Two morning sessions were held, giving many students an opportunity to educate themselves on the contributions of many talented African Americans. These students got to work with a group to create a brightly colored poster, recognizing these achievements and allowing other Mann students to also learn about and recognize these accomplished people.
On Monday, January 10th, National Honor Society members gathered for their second quarter group project. This quarter, members brought materials to make toys for the animals in the Greenville Humane Society. While each member brought a tee shirt to be cut up and turned into a variety of toys, others also brought various glues, feathers, corks, and other crafty items in order to make this project so successful. Hundreds of toys were made and donated, and the Greenville Humane Society was delighted to receive two large boxe of handmade toys for their animals.

On Monday, October 11th, members of NHS gathered for the first NHS sponsored group service project of the 2021-22 school year. This quarter, our members worked to honor Hispanic Heritage Month by crafting informational posters about various Hispanic individuals who have greatly influenced and shaped society in various fields of work. Working in the morning or afternoon in groups with their friends, students were able to learn more about the people who have made today possible while creating a way to spread that knowledge in the halls of our school. For those who did not attend this group project, there will be three more opportunities to obtain the NHS group service requirement before the end of the school year.

Over the last month and a half, members of JL Mann's National Honors Society have donated over 20 hours of their time to tear down and rebuild the campus Learning Garden. After so many hours of work, the garden has gone from ordinary and empty to full of life and color from fresh flowers, pruned bushes, and new mulch. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of the members who contributed their time, the Learning Garden can now become a special place for many students to hang out with each other and enjoy the presence of bountiful nature around them for years to come.
