I assign homework each school day for two reasons. First, I want the kids to have another opportunity to practice what we're learning in class. Second, I want parents and guardians to see the type of work we're doing. One thing will appear in the homework EVERY WEEK: reading for 20 minutes each day. Research tells us that the more kids practice reading, the more improvement they make in the course of a year.
I know that life can get in the way of doing homework. That's why we have some flexibility built in to the HW schedule. For example, if your child goes to soccer right after school, and then your family goes to church that evening, it may not be possible to complete homework. As the parent you can decide the next step. You might read for 40 minutes the day before, and/or you might do two days of math homework in the day after. As long as the work gets done somehow, I'll be happy. Please note that we select students to have lunch buddies on Friday mornings, so work must be done by then. If a child does not have homework finished, they are not eligible to participate in the drawing.
