Please click the link below for a more detailed description of the 1st-grade curriculum. We will be reading, writing, learning math, science, and social studies concepts, as well as, meeting students' individual needs in word study/spelling. Science and Social Studies will be alternated as units are taught unless the subject matter can be integrated during reading or writing instruction. Homework is primarily spent reading (using a reading log) and reviewing/practicing word study each night. Students may practice 5-10 math problems 2-3 times/week. We use journals and Chromebooks for most of our classwork, and your child will occasionally bring home their journal and a math workbook. Please send your student's journals, workbooks, and other resources to school daily. Please spend time reading together every day. Be sure to write the book's title, time spent reading, and sign your child's Reading Log throughout the week.
Please, please do not hesitate to ask questions about your student's schoolwork. If your child is struggling with homework and reaching a level of frustration, please stop the homework, write a note on their work explaining the conflict, or send an email to explain. -Mrs. Mitros
