All About Mrs. Hughes

My name is Kerry Hughes, and I am originally from Lake City, FL.  However, I moved with my family to Simpsonville, SC when I was in the middle of my fourth-grade year in school.  I attended Simpsonville Elementary, Bryson Middle, and Hillcrest High schools.  In 1997, I graduated from Hillcrest and then went on to study Elementary Education at Anderson College (now Anderson University).  I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education in 2001.

Following my undergraduate work, I began my teaching career in 2001 at Laurens Middle School where I taught sixth- and eighth-grade math for five years.  In 2006, I started teaching closer to home at Sue Cleveland Elementary in fifth grade.  There, I taught all subjects (but mostly math and science) for 11 years.  Six years ago, I taught 7th grade math at Legacy Early College, and for the last five years, I have been teaching math at Beck!  This year, I am teaching two classes of Algebra 1 Honors for 8th Graders and two classes of Math 7/8 for 7th Graders!

I am certified and highly qualified in Elementary Education and Middle Level Math.  In addition, I have a Masters degree from Arkansas State University in Educational Theory and Practice (2011).  On a personal note, I have been married to my husband Scott for fifteen years, and we have a beautiful cat named Leia (Princess Leia) who keeps us on our toes.  I look forward to working with each of you (students and parents) this school year!  Let's make it a great one!  Click here for what to do with your Valentine card (already claimed)!
