Kindergarten
Kindergarten students will check out one book per week and return it the following week. Students will check out books from baskets for the first part of the year then progress to the shelves as they learn about locating and caring for library materials.
First Grade
First graders will check out one book each week and return it the following week. Students will begin checking out from the Everybody section and as they study each section of the library, check out will be allowed from that section as well.
Second and Third Grade
Students in these grades may have two books checked out at a time.
Fourth and Fifth Grade
Fourth and fifth grade students may have two books checked out at a time with the possibility of up to three upon a conference with Mrs.Thompson.
Students should keep books away from liquids and food. Library books should not be left outside exposed to the elements. Water damage is a problem from water bottles in backpacks. Books should be examined when they arrive home so that any problems can be reported to the librarian. Damage that is not reported will become the responsibility of the student. We will discuss this in depth with the students during library orientation.
Our flexible schedule for upper grades(2-5) allows these students to visit the library when they are ready without having to wait for their assigned library day. They do have to ask their teacher's permission before visiting the library. The fixed schedule for 4K-1st Grade students allows students to easily remember their specific library day.
Crestview students visit the library using a fixed/flexible schedule. Students in grades K-2 visit the library during a fixed time each week. This allows our younger students to learn about the library collection, procedures, and policies and develop a love of books and reading.
Students in grades 3-5 visit the library on a flexible schedule every other week for a library lesson and to check out books. Flexible scheduling means that the library is "open" for individuals or groups to come for check out and/or research every day. The media specialist works collaboratively with the classroom teachers so that individuals or groups may visit and use the library resources for research or to supplement the learning taking place in the classroom.
