When does my child receive a Challenge Progress Report?
Students will receive a progress report at the end of each semester (Q2 & Q4)
Does my child have to qualify again for Challenge?
No. Once your child qualifies for Challenge, they will always be in Challenge.
Is there Challenge in middle school?
Yes. It is called Challenge Language Arts. Your child will be automatically enrolled in 6th grade.
Is there a Challenge math class in middle school?
No. There is advanced math in middle school. Your child’s homeroom teacher can explain the criteria for advance math.
Mission
The mission of gifted education is to maximize the potential of gifted and talented learners by providing programs and services that match their unique characteristics and needs.
Gifted individuals have a right to an education that is grounded in the recognition of individual differences and unique learning needs.
The gifted need a curriculum responsive to their individual learning rates, styles, and complexities. The gifted learn best in an instructional environment that encourages and nurtures inquiry, flexibility, and critical and creative thinking.
The Challenge program is designed to meet the needs of academically gifted and talented students. Challenge is a pull-out enrichment program that encourages inquiry, flexibility, creativity, and critical thinking. Third-grade students attend Challenge class for 125 minutes each week. Fourth and fifth-grade students attend for 200 minutes each week.
