My name is John Floyd. My wife, Sarah, and I recently moved to Greer (Frau Floyd teaches German through the South Carolina Virtual School). After graduating from Conway High School, I attended the University of South Carolina in Columbia where I received a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a Masters in Teaching. I taught for 8 years at Richland Northeast HS in Columbia. During my time at RNHS, I received my Gifted & Talented, AP Calculus, and National Board certifications.
After getting married, Sarah and I moved to Lexington. I taught at Pelion HS for 3 years, during which time I received a second Masters in Education (Divergent Learning). Sarah and I then moved back to Conway to be closer to family and raise our kids. I did a 1-year stint at Whittemore Park MS before moving back into the high school classroom. For 4 years I was split between the Academy for Technology & Academics and Green Sea Floyds HS to start AP Calculus programs there. I was then assigned to Conway HS to take over their AP Calculus program and oversee the school’s AP Academy, roles I thoroughly enjoyed for 8 years. This will be my second year at Greenville HS.
I am certified to teach secondary mathematics (with GT and AP Calculus AB/BC endorsements) and have had the pleasure of teaching every type of child, from the lowest Math Tech student to the most gifted BC Calculus scholar. I have mentored 5 interning teachers and have been on numerous boards and committees within the math field. Recently, I was the Mathematics Department Chair and the lead teacher for the AP Academy at Conway HS.
