Class Room Procedures

Classroom Procedures for Science with Ms. Skardon

Beginning Class - Students should enter the classroom with all of their materials and go directly and quietly to your assigned seat. If the red basket is on the right side counter, please take one copy of the item on your way to your seat.

*Students shall be seated upright and feet should not be placed on top of tables. Place your book bags/personal items under your table so that it allows for walking between the rows.

What to do first in class -

1. Begin work on the Launch/Starter assignment posted on the board or in google classroom.

Announcements – There is to be NO talking during announcements, the moment of silence, or the Pledge of Allegiance. You are asked to stand during the Pledge of Allegiance.

Bathroom Passes – Students will need to complete the school bathroom sign out form after gaining permission from the teacher. Try not to leave during times when the teacher is giving instructions or conducting a lesson.

Behavior – Proper behavior is expected at all times. Any horseplay or misbehavior will not be allowed. Please keep your hands to yourself.

Cell Phones - Cell phones are to be off and put inside of the student’s book bag or other type of bag. Cell phones should not be visible or heard during any part of the school day.

Class Dismissal – The teacher dismisses the class. Leave your area cleaner than you found it. Push your chair under and place trash in the trashcan.

Earbuds - Students are only allowed to use wired earbuds when directed by the teacher to complete an activity in class. Wireless earbuds are not to be used on campus as of the 2022-2023 school year.

Drinks – You may drink water in class. Water bottles should have a spill proof lid. Liquids should never be placed on surfaces with Chromebooks. For example, water bottles cannot be placed on desks, but need to be placed on the floor. Glass containers are NOT allowed. All spills must be cleaned by the student in order for this privilege to continue.

If the class room phone should ring – Please remain quiet during the phone call.

Leaving the Room as a Class – Occasionally, we will leave the room as a class. In the hallways, we will travel SILENTLY and SINGLE-FILE with your right shoulder toward the wall.

Lunch...

a. In the hallway, you will be silent and single file.

b. During lunch, we will sit as a class. You must get all food, drinks, and utensils before you sit down. You are not allowed to leave your seat once you sit down. When you are dismissed by the teacher, you will clean your area and throw away all trash into the trash can.

c. If you have lunch detention, you will get in the front of the lunch line. You will report to the designated area (cafeteria stage). Talking is NOT allowed during lunch detention.

d. If you need to use the restroom during lunch, please signal the teacher and if they give permission, get a bathroom pass from the wall before leaving the cafeteria. Only three boys and three girls may use the restroom at a time, so you may need to wait until another student returns.

Makeup Work – Per school policy, all makeup work for excused absences is due within 5 days of return to school. On the day you return, it is your responsibility to make sure to ask for any missing material. When you have completed the missing assignments, please turn them into me. If it is an electronic assignment, you must email the teacher that the assignment has been submitted. All work is posted daily in the Google classroom.

Moving in the Hallway - The main hallway is often referred to as "the shared learning zone." Students are expected to be quiet as soon as they leave the 6th grade hallway.

Off-limits areas - Students are not to be in the science storage room without permission. You are not allowed to enter any drawers or cabinets unless you are specifically asked to do so. My desks are off-limits areas.

Passing in work – Make 100% sure that your paper is labeled with your name, date, and class period. Work without a name cannot be graded.

Questions – Students shall raise their hands and be called upon prior to speaking. Only one person shall speak at a time. Please, ask questions. It is the best way to learn!

Taking a Test – During a test, talking is NOT allowed. Talking will be considered cheating and will result in a GFA and parent contact. Passing notes during a test or test period will also be considered cheating. When announced in advance, tests are due the day you return from an absence.

Tardy - You are considered tardy if you are not in your assigned seat before the classroom door is closed by the teacher. After five class tardies, you will serve lunch detention.

Toys/Fidget Spinners - Items that cause motion and noise in class are a disruption to the learning environment. They are not permitted in the classroom at any time. If these items are out during class, the teacher will remove them from the student. The student may return at the end of class to retrieve their item. If this becomes an incident that occurs on multiple occasions, further behavior consequences will be discussed.

Visitors – If class is interrupted by a visitor, students are expected to continue working quietly on assignments or notes. This is NOT an opportunity for you to talk or get out of your seats.

When you Finish Early – When you finish an assignment early, you will work on your vocab chart or study guide for the current topic. If you have finished those materials, you may work on an assignment for another class, draw, or read silently.
