We've compiled a few of our most common OverDrive questions and answers all in one place. We hope they will help you solve some of the more common issues students have with OverDrive. OverDrive has a great help site with videos and step-by-step instructions for many aspects of their service. We hope that between this page and the OverDrive help site your question can be answered. How many eBooks/audiobooks can I have checked out at a time?
10 titles can be checked out at the same time.
Can I renew an eBook/audiobook?
Yes. The option to renew a title becomes available three days before it is set to expire and appears next to the title on the Bookshelf in your Account.
How do I renew an eBook/audiobook?
- Sign in to OverDrive using your library card number.
- On your Bookshelf, select the Renew icon next to the title you’d like to renew.
- If there are no holds on the title, the Renew icon will be green and you will be able to renew the title at the end of your current loan period.
- If there are existing holds on the title, the Renew icon will be grayed out. You can use the renew feature to place a hold on the title.
- When your current loan period expires you will receive an email letting you know that you can borrow the title again.
- You will have to re-download the title.
How do I place a hold?
- Click Place a Hold.
- If prompted, enter your information. Click Sign In.
- Enter your email address. Be sure to use a real address because it will be used to notify you when the title is available.
- Click Place a Hold.
- When the title is available, you'll receive an email. The email will include a link back to the library's OverDrive site as well as how much time you have to retrieve the title.
- Holds expire in 72 hours.
- Log in to the library's OverDrive site. Then go to Account > Holds.
- Select the Borrow option to check out the title.

How do I change my email with OverDrive?
- Sign in to your account on the library's OverDrive site.
- Click the Holds option.
- Select the Edit link.
- Enter the new email address in both required fields.
- Click Submit.
How do I return an eBook?

After your titles are returned they will be removed from your current checkout list within minutes.
Can I recommend titles for the library to purchase?
Yes you can. You can recommend one book every 14 days.
- After you search for something on our OverDrive site you will see an option to view Additional Titles to Recommend in the search result filters.
- If you select Additional Titles to Recommend, titles that you can recommend to the library will be added to your search results. You can continue to sort and filter your results to find the title(s) you are looking for.
- To recommend a title, select the Recommend button.
- When you select Recommend, a pop-up will open where you can choose to be notified and/or be placed on the holds list if the title is purchased.
- Select Recommend this title to complete your recommendation.
I checked out a Kindle book but it didn't download to my Kindle. What happened?
Make sure your Kindle is connected to the internet via a Wi-Fi network (not 3G) so that the books you check out from us are delivered to your Kindle quickly and easily. This link will help you connect your Kindle to Wi-Fi. Select your model and Amazon has a video tutorial with step-by-step directions.
- Log in to your Amazon account and navigate to Manage Your Content and Devices.
- You will see a list of books you have purchased from Amazon and borrowed from the library.
- To the right of the list there is an Actions icon next to each book.
- When you place your cursor over that icon a list of options will appear.
- Select Deliver To My...
- You should see a window pop up that gives you the chance to deliver the book to your Kindle.
- After selecting this, the book should be delivered within minutes.
