Welcome to Traditional PreCalculus Honors!
Pre-Calculus is a program of mathematical study focusing on the student’s ability to understand and apply the study of functions and advanced mathematics concepts to solve problems.
This is a challenging course and includes a wide variety of topics which will be covered in depth. The course includes the study of Linear, Polynomial, Rational, Exponential, and Logarithmic Functions, as well as Polar and Parametric Curves, Vectors, Conic Sections, and Series and Sequences. Trigonometric Functions will be studied in depth, and students will also study the concept of the Limit—the fundamental building block of Calculus. Students will have many opportunities to use critical thinking skills. Emphasis is placed on active participation through modeling, communication of mathematical ideas, and through the use of technology, including graphing calculators, computers, and data-gathering equipment throughout the course. The content of this course is aligned with all state and national mathematics standards.

Quarters 1 and 3:
Polynomial Functions, Rational Functions, Exponential & Logarithmic Functions, Triangle Trig, Radian Measure & Circular Relationships
Quarters 2 and 4:
Radian Measure & Circular Relationships, Graphing Trigonometric Functions, Inverse Trig, Analytic Trigonometry, Polar Conversions
Course Objectives:
The student will be able to recall the definition of a function, basics of functions and their graphs, function operations, and function transformations
The student will understand the foundation of the limit in order to prepare for a course in Calculus
The student will be able to recognize various types of functions (including polynomial, rational, radical, exponential, and logarithmic functions), analyze their end behavior, and use their properties to graph and solve equations
The student will be able to define trigonometric functions and understand right triangle trigonometry and the unit circle
The student will be able to know and apply identities involving trigonometric functions
The student will be able to recognize conic sections and their geometric properties
The student will be able to understand polar coordinates, parametric equations, and vectors
The student will embrace the concept of infinity
