Course Description
This course helps students develop the techniques and skills used to achieve a personal level of fitness. This course will help students satisfy the requirements for Performance Standards 1 - 5 of the South Carolina Physical Education curriculum requirements. Mastery of information will provide students with the concepts needed to maintain a desired state of fitness throughout their lifetime.
Course Objectives
The course standards are outlined by the National Association for Sport and Physical Education found in the South Carolina Curriculum Guide.
1. Demonstrates competency in modified version of activities in three movement forms.
2. Participates regularly in health enhancing physical activity outside the physical education class.
3. Meets the standard for health related physical fitness for his/her age group and gender published by the National Association for Sport and Physical Education.
4. Demonstrates knowledge of the five components of fitness and the F. I. T. T principles on a written test.
All students enrolled in our Physical Education/Health classes will receive 5-7 days of Human Growth and Sexuality education as required by law. All students enrolled in our classes will also receive Health instruction as required by the Comprehensive Health Education Act. Health state standards are taught within the Physical Education class time and through our weekly health lessons on Mondays.

Evaluation Criteria: Student progress is cumulatively assessed throughout the semester in the following areas:
Sport skill evaluations - 25%
Health - 25%
Fitness activity/Tests - 50%
Grading Policy:
Minor Grades: (8 every nine weeks, 16 a semester)
25 points a day for skill evaluations = 100 points a weeks
Major Grades: (3 every nine weeks, 6 a semester)
Major grades can be tests, activities, or circuits. Students will always know in advance when a major is going to be given.
Class Procedures and Rules:
1. Respect others and equipment.
2. Come prepared for class.
3. No food, drink, or gum in the gym or locker room.
4. Be on time to class and attendance spots.
5. Observe all Mauldin Middle School Rules.
6. Bring positive attitude and have fun!
Attendance, tardy, shoes and dress Policy:
Students are expected to be in class, with the correct shoes and on time. When a student is tardy they will be marked in the system and after multiple times will be assigned to ISS. Shoes must be athletic closed toed shoes (no slides, sandals, boots, heels, Tom's, Sperry's, Crocs.) Students have the option to change clothes in the locker room if wanted but it's not mandatory. Dress code still applies to anything they change in for the class period. If students don't change clothes they are still required to participate in appropriate clothing. Chrome books, shoes and other belongings will be placed in the locker room during class.
Parent/Guardian communication will be established through, phone calls, letters, e-mail, progress reports, fitness achievement reports and conferences.
