Grading:
Major Assessments and Grading Practices
Due to the content of this course, all of the major assessments are authentic in nature, i.e., they are performance- or project-based, presentations, or observed tasks. Periodically there will be tests, quizzes, essays, graded tasks (done as homework or outside of class), and written reports of the formative (minor) nature.
Grades:
All assessments will be considered major or minor. Course grades will be determined by a weighting of 60% for major assessments (IPA assessments and projects) and 40% for minor assessments (classwork, work outside of class/homework, quizzes). Each assignment will be categorized as an interpretive, an interpersonal, or a presentational task. Learners will receive a performance rating for each assessment, in addition to the grade, such as NM-L (low end of the Novice-Mid proficiency level). Each rating describes the performance level of the learner demonstrated on that particular assignment. The goal is to see growth across assessments as the course progresses in relation to the SC Department of Education end of course expectations.
Rubric used for grading all assignments
Proficiency Information: Students in French 1 will be graded using the Novice level rubric. By the end of the course, learners are expected to meet or surpass the communicative abilities outlined here.
Make-up Work-
Assignments will be posted on the class site calendar (anything with a due date). Homework will be posted on the daily slide presentation (last slide) which will be posted on our class site. At times, I will send out reminders via the Remind app. If you are absent, please check the web site or call a classmate to verify assignments. You should be prepared to turn in assignments or make up quizzes or tests within five days of your return to school, sooner if possible. If you are absent the day an assignment is due you are expected to turn it in ADVANCE. Lesson plans will be posted on or before the Monday in which instruction occurs. If you are absent the day of a graded assessment you are expected to take it the first day upon your return.
Missing Deadlines/Due dates/Late Work
In an effort to prepare you for college and the workforce, deadlines and due dates are strictly adhered to in my classes. In all French courses, once an assignment is late, (i.e. not turned in during the period at the time it is collected), the student can earn up to 90% credit the following day, decreasing by 10% more each day it is late. If the late assignment is turned in before the end of the unit, the maximum score possible is 60%. After the end of the unit, the assignment cannot earn higher than a 50%..
