It is my goal at Hillcrest Middle School to develop physically literate students who have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of physical activity.
To develop a physically active lifestyle, a physically literate individual:
Has learned the skills necessary to perform a variety of physical activities,
Is physically fit
Participates regularly in physical activity,
Knows the implications of and the benefits of involvement in physical activities, and
Values physical activity and its contribution to a healthy lifestyle.
Student Goal
For the 2024 - 2025 school year 100% of Hillcrest Middle School Students will be led toward the achievement of South Carolina Academic Standards for Physical Education. (SC Physical Education Standards)
Expected Student Outcome
Students will develop competency in many movement activities.
Students will understand how and why they move in a variety of situations and use this information to enhance their own skills.
Students will achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.
Students will exhibit a physically active lifestyle and will understand that physical activity provides opportunities for enjoyment, challenge, and self-expression.
Students will demonstrate responsible personal behavior while participating in movement activities.
Students will demonstrate responsible social behavior while participating in movement activities. Students will understand the importance of respect for others.
Students will understand the relationship between history, culture, and games.

Grading
All grades will follow the Greenville County Schools grading scale:
A: 100%-90 % B: 89% – 80% C: 79% – 70% D: 69% – 60% F: 59% – Below
If a student needs to be excused from participating, they must do the following:
Bring a signed and dated written note from a parent or guardian with a valid reason (illness/injury).
If the student has a serious illness or injury that will keep the student from participating for more than three days a doctor’s note will be required. The coach will then assign alternative work.
Locks and Lockers
No lockers this school year.
P.E. Expectations - Gym, Locker Room, Classroom, and Outdoors
The student will enter the gym prepared for class and participate to the best of their abilities. The utmost respect will be shown toward all, including self, others, and equipment.
1. “prepared for class” – Students will not be dressing out this school year, so students will not be using the locker rooms. Students will work in the gym, sit on the bleachers, and wait for instructions.
2. “participate to the best of their abilities” – the student will do what they are physically able to do, apply the concepts learned in class, and give their best effort.

Follow directions when the first time is given.
Profanity, fooling around, and screaming are not allowed in the locker room.
Respect equipment, other students, and property.
If anyone is caught intentionally damaging any part of the physical education facilities or equipment, students will receive a referral, the student may be restricted from use and will possibly be expected to pay for the damages.

Students are expected to demonstrate respect for property, themselves, and others.
Students are expected to play fairly, encouraging others while following rules and guidelines.
Students are expected to demonstrate a positive, healthful attitude towards winning and losing.
