2023-2024
MLL Syllabus
Course Goals: The primary goal of the MLL program is to improve English communication skills. This includes instruction and practice in listening, speaking, reading and writing. The secondary goal of MLL is support to core content classes: ELA, Science, Math and Social Studies.
Instructional Procedures:
Students will work in various settings. These include direct instruction and active learning through individual, peer, or group work.
Participation: Learning a language takes practice and the best practice is to listen with both ears and to use the target language- speaking whenever possible. Active participation in speaking exercises is vital to the success of learning a new language.
Instructional strategies: Students will learn through various strategies such as TPR (total physical response), visual aids, listening and speaking activities, role-playing, reading easy to read novels, writing activities, and using the Lexia Core 5 computer program.
Assessment :
Each year in January and February my non-exited MLL students will take the WIDA ACCESS test. This will assess the student in Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing skills. Once the student has passed this test they will be monitored for 4 years to see if there are any language difficulties.
Our Class Rules:
Be polite to everyone and to the teacher. No laughing at "mistakes"! We're all learning!
Be present and participate in class.
No eating, chewing gum, or cellphones in class.
Keep chromebooks charged every day. Work on Lexia Core 5 curriculum every day.
