Hello friends and family! I'm Miss Gily and I will be serving as your Mental Health Counselor at Greer Middle School.
This is my first year in the school system and I am super excited to embark on this new journey with y'all. I have experience working in adolescent residential behavioral treatment and outpatient addiction services. I am so excited to get back to working with adolescents in order to help them work through all the trials of middle school and to grow into strong and capable young adults. I do this work because of my passion for mental health and my belief that everyone is deserving of care and a happy, successful life.
I am a Michigan native, but took flight to the University of South Carolina for college in 2018 and my Masters in Social Work in 2022. I am a Licensed Master of Social Work and have a certificate in Addiction Studies from USC. In addition to my therapeutic qualifications, I am a 200hr certified Yoga Instructor (RYT-200). I love yoga and mindfulness and hope to integrate this into my therapeutic approach. Outside of school, I am a cat mom of 2 and foster cats in need of a new home. I love to go line dancing with my friends and teach fitness classes of all kinds in Greenville. I also love to listen and music and craft, which is something to always look forward to in my office!
To clear up any confusion about my last name, I have chosen to shorten my last name for this role as it frequently gets misspelled and mispronounced, so to avoid confusion and missing important emails, I will be going by Miss Gily:)
Often, emotions and behaviors in adolescents can be dismissed due to their age of development, social influences and other assumptions. To me, every feeling and emotion is valid. Therapy is about uncovering where the thoughts, feelings and behaviors are stemming from. Therapy is not just talking about what's going on, but connecting with the mind, body and spirit to create change. Therapy is the gift of getting the opportunity to better understand ourselves without the presence of judgement, stress and outside noise. For families, it can help each individual to better understand one another and become a stronger unit. Therapy takes commitment and patience, but in the end, it's all worth it to have effective coping skills, a calmer and healthier mind/body and improved relationships.
