Students will receive coverage for one incident of accidental damage per year (Ex: liquid spill, damaged screen due to unintentional fall). The majority of Chromebook damages can easily be prevented if the device is properly stored in a case or sleeve. Your Chromebook will come in a hard shell case. You MAY NOT remove the case. If your computer is returned with no case or a damaged case, you will be charged a $25 fee to replace the case. It is up to you if you'd also like to purchase a case with a strap or some other type of case.
Sleeves and snap-on covers are inexpensive, but they tend to provide only minimal protection for general wear-and-tear. A hard case, while costing a little more, will provide better protection against potential breaks caused by impact. All of these options, in addition to protection, provide students the opportunity to "personalize" their Chromebooks, making them easy to identify if it should be misplaced while at school. You may not put stickers or labels on the hard shell case that is issued with your Chromebook. A great alternative is to leave the backing on the sticker and stick it under the case (or stick it to a piece of paper and put the paper inside the case).
If your Chromebook requires repair, you will need to fill out the Chromebook Repair Form (including parent signature) before you bring your Chromebook to the Media Center. It is best to bring your computer in for repair as soon as you notice that it is damaged. The longer you wait, the more expensive the repair will be. You can obtain a Repair Form from the Media Center between 8:15 and 8:30 in the morning. On the day that you are given a Repair Form, you will be given a loaner Chromebook to use for that day only. Once you have the Repair form filled out, you will bring the form and your Chromebook to the Media Center before school from 8:15-8:30. We will send your computer off for repair and issue you a new one.
After you have used your free repair, you will be charged for all other repairs. When you bring your computer in to us for a repair form, we will assess the damage and put the cost of the repair on your repair form. We do our best to charge you only for the parts needed to repair the Chromebook. Therefore, the sooner you bring it in, the less it will cost because as you continue to use a damaged Chromebook, it gets more and more damaged, resulting in more fees.
The fines for damages will go onto your account. You must pay all fines to participate in Black and Gold Day/8th Grade Day. You cannot graduate high school if you still owe fines. We are happy to take partial payments as you work to pay off the full fine.
If your Chromebook is intentionally damaged, you will be charged the cost of the repair, even if you have not yet used your free repair. You will also receive a referral.
