Missing/Lost/Stolen

Request for Repairs & Missing/Lost/Stolen Chromebook

In the case of a lost or stolen Chromebook, Greenville County Schools has already planned for that possibility. Student-issued Chromebooks are equipped with tracking devices which, when activated, can pinpoint the location of the device. Search and recovery of Chromebooks will be turned over to local police, so before reporting a lost or stolen Chromebook, we ask for due diligence on the part of the student to try and find the device themselves. Students should report missing or lost Chromebooks to:

  • Ms. Higdon and Mrs, Jackson before school in the media center between 8:15 am-8:30 am.

Students must fill out the GMS Missing/Lost/Stolen Chromebook Form to initiate the process of replacing a lost or missing device. The forms can be found on the wall outside of the media center. If the Chromebook is stolen, student /parent are required to turn in the GMS Missing/Lost/Stolen Chromebook Form within 48 hours or they will assume the cost for replacing the device ($307.22).

Please note, students should continue checking with Ms. Higdon and Mrs, Jackson to see if his/her Chromebook has been turned in. Students should not leave their class during instructional time nor be tardy to class to get forms/check on whether their Chromebook has been found.

Tips for finding your lost or missing Chromebook:

  • Think of the last time you had your Chromebook. Retrace your steps from that day as best you can.

  • Check your backpack. Chromebooks are small and lightweight, so they might get lost in a binder or in the shuffle of books and papers.

  • Check in every classroom and location (front office, cafeteria, health room, gym, etc.) in the school you went that day you last saw it. Talk with your teachers to make sure they did not see one. Ask your grade-level administrator and your hallway custodian if they saw it.

  • If you are a bus rider, talk with your bus driver to make sure they did not find your Chromebook. If you are a car rider, be sure to check all the way under car seats and in seat pockets.

  • Check anywhere at home (home of your friends and family) you might have left it. Chromebooks have been found under beds, couches, and under stacks of magazines.
