Lost Devices

In the case of a lost or stolen Chromebook, Greenville County Schools has already planned for that possibility. Student-issued Chromebooks are equipped with tracking devices which, when activated, can pinpoint the location of the device. Search and recovery of Chromebooks will be turned over to local police, so before reporting a lost or stolen Chromebook, we ask for due diligence on the part of the student to try and find the device themselves.

Tips for finding your lost Chromebook:

  • Think of the last time you had your Chromebook. Retrace your steps from that day as best you can.
  • Check your backpack and locker. Chromebooks are small and lightweight, so they might get lost in a binder or in the shuffle of books and papers.
  • Check in every classroom and location in the school you went to that day you last saw it. Talk with your teachers to make sure they did not see one or have one turned in.
  • Check with the school's Front Office, the Lost & Found, the Chromebook Helpdesk.
  • If you are a bus-rider, talk with your bus driver to make sure they did not find your Chromebook. If you are a car-rider, be sure to check all the way under car seats and in seat pockets.
  • Check anywhere at home you might have left it. Chromebooks have been found under beds, under stacks of magazines, and sometimes in sneaky siblings' bedrooms!

If after a thorough search the Chromebook still cannot be found, see the Chromebook Helpdesk to report the lost Chromebook.
