Damaged Devices

When it Breaks

The student is responsible for their assigned Chromebook and charger, and they use it daily at school. They should know best when it is not working properly. It is the student's responsibility to report damages or malfunctions immediately upon realizing something is wrong. Failure to do so could ultimately cause further damage or safety issues.

Parents/guardians and teachers who notice damage on a student device are asked to report the damage to the Chromebook Helpdesk as soon as possible.

1st Break

The student reports Chromebook damages immediately and turns it in for repair. The student may be supplied with a loaner Chromebook (based on availability) until their assigned device is repaired.

2+ Breaks

The student reports Chromebook damages immediately and turns it in for repair. The student will not be supplied with another Chromebook until the device is repaired.

The cost of repairs for *intentional damage* are the responsibility of the student. The cost will be for the parts required to repair the device. Labor is not factored into this cost.

Repairs

Chromebook breaks are usually unintentional, but they do happen. The Chromebook Fee paid at the beginning of the school year covers a student's Chromebooks for one break. Certified technicians will repair damaged Chromebooks and chargers for as long as the device is under warranty.

Students and parents/guardians should not attempt to repair Chromebooks themselves. Doing so may cause additional and more expensive damage, and may void warranty.

If your Chromebook is damaged, malfunctioning, lost or stolen, students should come to the Media Center before school. The student will be provided with a replacement Chromebook and a parent/guardian will be notified.

Intentional damages caused to the device will be treated as damage to school property and may be subject to other consequences for their actions. In the case of intentional damage, a parent/guardian will be notified by an administrator.

Chromebooks save files to the student's Google Drive (associated with their student account). All settings, apps, extensions and files are backed up online and will still be available on the newly assigned device. No need to wait for repairs!

Students can also access their work from any device, so long as they log into Google using their school account.
