GATEWAY ELEMENTARY MEDIA CENTER
RULES & POLICIES
Our library runs on an A/B schedule. This means that our 1st - 5th grade students visit every other week. Our Kindergarten students visit each week. Students can check out the following number of books at each visit -
1st - 5th grade - 2 books, can be checked out for 2 weeks at a time and can be renewed once
K5 - 1 book, can be checked out for 1 week at a time and can be renewed once
Library books must be returned before new ones can be checked out. Parents are welcome to checkout books, too!
Lost or Damaged Books: During library class our students will learn all about book care! But, if an accident occurs and a book gets damaged, please do not try to repair it yourself. Send it back to school with a note and I will do everything possible to fix it so that you do not have to pay to replace the book. If a book cannot be repaired or is lost, we ask that you pay to replace the book. A form will be sent home with the price of the book. The average cost of a library bound book is $20.00
If a student damages or lose a book, he/she must pay for it before checking out new books. The money should be paid to the front office where it will be put in an account. Money from this account will be used to replace lost library books. If a library book is not paid for by the end of the year, he/she will not receive their report card.
