Monday Music Memo Week of 12/2/19

ALL STUDENTS:

  • The band room is opened for morning practicing from 7:45-8:15am ONLY ON THURSDAY AND FRIDAY. IT WILL NEVER BE OPENED MONDAY,TUESDAY, and WEDNESDAY MORNINGS.

Band 6 Students

  • Flipgrids are due this Friday for your exercise #1-10
  • Pass Offs will be beginning this week. Make sure that you are practicing your exercises and are ready to play every class period.

Band 7 Students

  • Pass Offs
  • Information has been posted about the Conductor's Circle Winter Concert Fundraiser. Please make sure your name is on the envelope you turn in with what seats you want. Let me know if you have any questions
  • Mark your calendars. On Monday December 16th there will be an after school rehearsal till 5:30 to practice one of the holiday pieces for our concert with our guests soloists. Please make sure you have made arrangements for a ride to pick you up at 5:30pm. I understand if you have a prior commitment and will not be able to make this after school practice. All I ask is that you please send me an email so I know if you are not going to be there.
  • Winter Concert is December 18th at 6:30pm at Fisher. Please see the parent letter for more details.

Band 8 Students

  • Concert Ab Pass Offs due at the end of the month. See google classroom for more information

EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITies:

It's with great pleasure to announce that one of our own Fisher Firebirds made the Greenville All County Band.


Ms. Veronica Cooker is 4th Chair Clarinet


The All County Band clinic is the end of February and will perform a concert February 28th at Wade Hampton High School

First: Charlie Vernon, Bass Trombonist of the Chicago Symphony, will present a Brass Clinic this coming Thursday (Feb. 27) at 4:00 - 5:30/6:00 PM in the Instrumental Rehearsal Hall (D-13) at Furman University. The event is open to Furman University students as well as brass musicians from surrounding schools. Brass players from Upstate SC and northwest NC are invited to attend. Attendees are encouraged to bring their instruments or mouthpieces. The event is free of charge. Parking is in the lot adjacent to the Daniel Music Building at Furman University.

Second: This Friday evening, Feb. 28, at 8 PM in McAlister Auditorium, the Furman Symphony Orchestra will present a special program led by David Glover, Associate Conductor of the North Carolina Symphony. He will be joined by soloist Charles Vernon, Bass Trombonist of the famed Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The concert will feature Beethoven’s Symphony No. 8, Rimsky-Korsakov’s orchestral showpiece, Russian Easter Overture, the Rhapsody for Bass Trombone and Strings by Eric Ewazen (head of the composition faculty at the Julliard School), and a setting of three jazz ballads ("I'm Getting Sentimental Over You", “The Nearness of You”, “Blue Skies”) arranged for Mr. Vernon by Tom Matta, Jazz Trombone Professor at the Depaul School of Music. Tickets for the event are $20 for Adult, $15 for Senior/OLLI, $5 for Students.
