Theatre Foundations Honors is a rigorous course designed for students who express a desire and the potential to pursue pre-professional arts training, in Theatre Performance or in Theatre Design and Production, who have auditioned, been identified as Artistically Talented and been accepted into the Fine Arts Center’s Theatre program.
In Theatre Foundations, students build their working knowledge of theatre history, dramatic literature, professional expectations, studio, rehearsal, and artistic habits and practices of the actor/theatre artist.
Students’ development of artistic skill and technique is introduced concomitantly with the conventions and literature of major historical eras from a scholarly point of view.
Through ensemble-based and independent projects, seminar, lecture, formal and reflective writing, collaborative and independent studio and scene/performance based opportunities, as well as research-based projects, students explore the creative aspects of theatre through both academic and artistic lenses.
The course emphasizes development of professional practice, self-evaluation, reflection, career readiness, and goal-setting for the emerging theatre artist.
