Physical Education Long Range Plans

Students will attend physical education class once a week for a Face to Face lesson.

Background Information

Mitchell Road realizes Physical Education is an integral part of the total education of every child. The mission of the Physical Education Department is to develop positive attitudes, physical skills and the knowledge necessary to empower all students to engage in lifelong wellness. The themes I use to teach the South Carolina Physical Education Standards include: Body Control, Fitness, Propelling, Receiving and Striking (hitting an object). These themes are the foundation for the Physical Education curriculum and all physical activity.

Learning and Development Goals

The general focus for my physical education classes is for all students to become confident in their own abilities. To develop personal physical fitness skills, gain knowledge of healthy lifestyles and apply this knowledge throughout their lives so they may be healthy and productive adults.

At the completion of a physical education school year, my students will be able to:

1) Demonstrate competency and / or proficiency in many movement forms.

2) Apply movement concepts and principles to the learning and development of

motor skills.

3) Make strides to exhibit a physically active lifestyle.

4) Achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.

5) Demonstrate responsible personal and social behavior in physical activity

settings.

6) Demonstrate understanding and respect for differences among people in physical

activity settings.

7) Understand that physical activity provides the opportunity for enjoyment of

health and wellness, self-expression, and social interaction.
