Information for Parents

Dear Parents,

Our goal every year is to expose your child to health - related fitness, physical competence and self responsibility through the state of South Carolina's physical education standards, FitnessGram assessments and a quality physical education program filled with integrated curriculum, motor skill development, cooperative learning skills and cognitive concepts. The knowledge and skills learned in physical education this year, will give your child the foundation to choose wisely, various activities and habits for leading a healthy lifestyle.

The Physical Education Department prides itself in developing a positive learning environment fill with a variety of learning styles to meet the various cognitive and physical needs and differences of all students at Mitchell Road.

My main focus throughout the year is for the students of all grade levels, focus on and learn the five Health Related Fitness Components (cardiovascular endurance, body composition, muscular endurance, muscular strength, flexibility) and the five Skill Related Fitness Components (speed, agility, balance, coordination, power) through technology experiences presented in class along with age appropriate assessments and various games, activities, sports and movement experiences.

In order for the physical education department to maintain a safe learning environment for our students we need for all students to be prepared for physical movement. For your child to be prepared for physical education he or she must wear tennis shoes and safe, comfortable clothing on his or her designated PE day.

Greenville County Schools Grading in the Elementary Related Arts

After every class meeting, a student will receive one of the following grades: an Active Class Participation grade or a Standards-Based Assessment grade. Only 2 Standards Based grades will be given each quarter.
