Homework Policy

• Work that is assigned during class to be completed during lab time, and is not completed during class, is to be completed at home and submitted prior to the next class period. 

• Additionally, projects and additional homework may be assigned prior to class ending. Students will receive a submission/due date notice.  

Make Up Work

• Students may make up missed work from any absence within 5 days of returning to school (or as outlined by district policy) with no penalty. It is the student’s responsibility to schedule and complete the work within that time. 

• After 5 days, the assignment will be considered late. A zero may be temporarily recorded until the work is submitted and graded.

• Alternative assignments may be given for performance-based tasks that cannot be recreated in a make-up format.

• If a student is present on the day a test, quiz or project due date is announced and then absent on the day of the test, quiz or project deadline, he/she must be prepared to take the test, quiz or turn in the project on the day he/she returns to school.

• Field trips and participation in other extracurricular events (such as athletics, clubs, band) are considered attendance days.  Work missed due to such events can be submitted electronically by midnight on the day that it is due.  Items that cannot be submitted electronically should be submitted the following attendance day.

• Students are encouraged to utilize teacher office hours and the after school tutoring programs to complete make-up and late work in a proactive manner.
  
  

Late Work Procedures 

• If the student demonstrates active engagement, late assignments that are fully completed will be accepted with a deduction of 10 points per day for up to four school days. Work will be accepted up to five school days before the end of the quarter, with the highest possible score of a 60.

• Students must submit the work via CodeHS or the Google Classroom AND email the teacher, using the professional email format, notifying  the teacher of the submission.

Redo/Retake/Revision Procedures (Major Assessment Retakes)

• Students are allotted one retake of a major assessment per unit if the following conditions exist:

  • No missing assignments (zeros) within that unit

  • Completion of teacher remediation practice 

• Retake assessments may differ from the original assessment, but on the same concepts.

• Each retake must be completed before the end of the next unit. The highest grade of the two assessments will be recorded.

Teacher Remediation Practice

• May consist of completing one or up to all of the following: 

  • All codeHS work that was not successfully completed from the unit 

  • Completing a unit worksheet

  • The student creating a personalized study guide

  • The student creating a plan for success and submitting via a professional email
