Erin's Law

In 2014 the South Carolina Legislation passed Erin’s Law, as part of Health and Safety Education. The purpose of the law is to ensure that all students Pre-Kindergarten through High School receive this prevention instruction during the academic school year. The intent of the law is to equip students with theknowledge and skills to remain safe from sexual assault and how to make a report if an assault occurs.

Instructional units were written as a resource guide for educators to implement Erin’s Law. These units are aligned with the South Carolina Academic Health and Safety Education. Lesson content varies from grade to grade. A copy of each lesson will be available at your child’s school for you to preview if you choose.

Over the next school year your child will be presented this lesson by a counselor. The lesson content is not part of sexuality education and only discusses age appropriate health and safety education.

If you have any further questions after you have previewed the materials please contact your child’s counselor.

Dates:  6th and 7th grade December 7th 2023 and 8th grade December 13th, 2023

Role of the School Counselor | American School Counselor Association (ASCA)

Parents, the press, administrators and the general public often wonder just what it is that school counselors do on a daily basis. Gone are the days of school counselors sitting in their office simply handing out college applications, making schedule changes for students who want to drop a class or waiting for a crisis to occur. Today's school counselors are vital members of the education team. They help all students in the areas of academic achievement, career and social/emotional development, ensuring today's students become the productive, well-adjusted adults of tomorrow

Here at Sevier middle we believe that our students should be acknowledged for showing and possessing positive values.  Our Students of the Month are nominated and selected based on their overall character, behavior, leadership, academic effort, and citizenship. Any faculty member/staff can nominate students. Recipients are given a certificate and award. Selected students will be highlighted on the bulletin board outside the media center, announced during the morning announcements, and posted on social media. Congratulations to all of our students who receive this award.
