ML is the term that refers to the Multilingual Learner Program.
Role of the ML teacher
To help students to develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English
To support students' content area learning
To advocate for students by collaborating with other teachers and communicating with parents
To facilitate the integration of students into the school community both academically and socially.
English Language Proficiency Testing
Students who have a primary home language other than English are identified by the ML teachers and are screened for language proficiency testing. The WIDA Kindergarten Screener or the WIDA Online Screener is used for ML program placement purposes for new students.
The WIDA ACCESS assessment is administered each year in the early spring to measure annual progress in English language acquisition.
Both the WIDA Screener and the ACCESS assessment have various levels for K-12 students, test the four language domains (listening, speaking, reading, and writing), and result in classifications from Entering to Exited.
