About Me

From my earliest memories, I have always wanted to be a teacher. As children, my sister would beg me to play house with her, and I would insist on playing school. I had my own classroom in the attic with a large chalkboard and an old wooden desk. My dolls and stuffed bears were my students. I especially loved to teach math to them. I knew one day I would have my own classroom with real students. I have never regretted my career choice, especially since I have been at Skyland Elementary School. There is no other place I would rather be.

A Tennessee native (Go VOLS!), I received an Associate degree from Tomlinson College and my Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Lee University in Tennessee. After moving to South Carolina, I received my Master of Education in Divergent Learning from Columbia College. I have been teaching in SC for twenty-five years. This is my twenty-second year teaching 5th grade at Skyland. In 2007, I was honored by being selected as Skyland's "Teacher of the Year!"

Away from school, my time is spent with my family and church. I have been married for forty-two years to my husband, Steve. We have a lot in common since he is also a teacher. We have three children. My oldest daughter, Amanda is a Kindergarten teacher at Mountainview and she and her husband Andrew, have a 13 year old son and a 10 year old daughter. Our daughter, Ashleigh, is married to Glen, and they have an 8 year old son and a 6 year old daughter. Our son, Christopher is a banker and his wife, Faith, is a teacher at Fountain Inn Elementary. They have a 2 year old daughter and a baby daughter. As you can see, I'm a proud Nana!

When I am not at school, there are many activities I enjoy doing with my family. I enjoy reading, shopping, baking, sewing, singing, painting, playing the piano, and especially visiting my extended family in Tennessee.
