Philosophy

I love children and teaching has always been my passion. I grew up playing school with my dolls and in my high school and college years I taught children and youth when provided an opportunity. I believe that all children can learn, therefore I have high expectations. Although they learn at different rates and through different styles, I believe it is my job to find out how they learn best and use teaching strategies that will accommodate their needs and maximize their potential. One of my goals is to foster a love of reading in my students, because reading well is the key to a successful student. It is my desire to create a happy, positive learning environment where all students are excited about learning. Students will be encouraged to work cooperatively and responsibly in a variety of settings which will help to develop a community of friends and learners within our classroom. First grade is an amazing year of growth and I look forward to the accomplishments of each precious child.

Behavior Expectations

In order for first graders to reach their potential, they are expected to be responsible and try their best. My students help develop our classroom expectations and will be required to follow them.

1. Keep your hands, feet, and objects to yourself.

2. Raise your hand and wait to be called on to talk.

3. Respect others.
